Culture
Ireland is situated on the western reach of Europe. We
enjoy a rich cultural heritage that stems from our inherent
individualism and our island state. A culture is formed not
just by its people, but its landscape and the Irish landscape
has created its own unique horse culture.
The legacy of Irish Art and Literature is obviously
influenced by our history of famine and foreign invasion.
This complex background adds diversity to the Ireland of
today. Flowerhill is situated in South East Galway. Your
Equestrian holiday can be tailored to suit your interests.
We are just 40 mins drive from Galway city a thriving centre
of Art and Culture with festivals running all year,
including the Galway races. We are just 30 mins from
Oranmore, home to the famous Oyster festival.
Loughrea is just a 15 min drive with its lake and world
famous Cathedral. The stained glass in the Cathedral is one
of its focal points. The Cathedral can be seen as part
of the culmination of the Gaelic revival which took place in
the earlier part of the last century, involving Maud Gonne,
W.B. Yeats and Edward Martyn.
Irish pub culture is a way of life in itself. The Irish
are known the world over for their fondness for the craic
and this is usually accompanied by a few pints. We will
incorporate as much of local culture, or as little as you
wish in your holiday at Flowerhill.
